They say that the average job seeker spends approximately 60 seconds reading through a job ad (especially in today's mobile-first society) before deciding whether to press 'apply' or 'next'.

So with that in mind, I wanted to avoid the 'New Year, New Job' cliches and instead take you on a journey...

The journey begins with a Global Organisation in the Education sector, with offices all over the world and with a real passion for ensuring that technology acts as an enabler rather than a blocker within the business. They are going through a huge period of transformational change and are looking to recruit into their Senior Management Function by hiring a Head of Salesforce Business Systems. Reporting directly into the CTO, the role is VP-level and offers a unique opportunity to help shape the technical direction of an expanding business.

The journey continues with the role, specifically an opportunity to take responsibility for guiding, developing and supporting the organisation's IT systems including products such as Salesforce and Workday. Your role will see you act in a leadership capacity, collaborating with multiple business areas (IT, Finance, Operations, Marketing, Sales etc.), with the overriding goal being to establish a core technology strategy that incorporates all of the organisation's core values.

The journey draws to a close with the core requirements, but rather than simply copying and pasting the formal JD like every other recruiter, I thought I would highlight the core skills required to be considered for this role:
  • Stakeholder Management - First and foremost, proven stakeholder-facing skills (up to c-level) are crucial due to the nature of this role. You will act as a conduit between IT and the wider business, so the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is therefore crucial.
  • Salesforce CRM Experience - Applicants need to have proven experience with CRM systems, with preference given to candidates with knowledge and commercial experience of Salesforce and FinancialForce. This might include Salesforce Development and/or Architecture, including how to ensure Salesforce is rolled out into an organisation. Exposure to additional products including ServiceNow and Workday is beneficial.
  • Leadership - Strong leadership skills are a must, including the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
  • Technology Strategy - Finally, you must be able to demonstrate strategic skills, including experience both designing and implementing product/technology roadmaps. Your role will see you identify and evaluate opportunities for technological innovation, so the ability to turn those opportunities into concrete strategies is therefore crucial.
