Motivations for switching employment types

Whatever the Salesforce role, use our guide to benchmark your salary or contact rate, or to uncover what you should be paying employees in your team.

One of the great things about working with Salesforce is the scope of opportunities available to those with the right skills. From working in-house with a Salesforce customer to consulting with clients to freelancing (or even working for Salesforce itself!) there’s an option to suit every Salesforce professional, no matter what their professional ambition or how they like to work.

Sometimes though, the grass appears a little greener on the other side, and professionals working in permanent roles might want to try their hand at contracting. Likewise, self-employed Salesforce pros might be tempted into an full-time role by the perceived security or benefits on offer.

So what exactly motivates Salesforce talent to change lanes and take on a different type of work? It’s a particularly useful question for organizations looking to hire permanent team members; knowing what attracts contractors into full-time, in-house roles can significantly broaden the pool of available talent.

With more than a third of the freelancers we surveyed open to moving to a permanent role in the next 12 months, employers looking for full-time team members would benefit from developing a hiring strategy that targets contractors and focuses on selling the aspects of a perm role that most appeal to freelancing professionals.

The biggest draw for those currently contracting is stability and security in their role (67%), so be sure to highlight the ongoing success and future prospects of your business as a feature of your employer brand.

Offering flexible and remote working options will also help attract contractors. Given that the majority of contractors are able to set their own schedules and work from anywhere, it makes sense that 56% of them would be interested in a permanent position that offered remote working. When looking to convert contractors to perm roles, highlight your flexible working options and give candidates confidence that they won’t have to completely sacrifice autonomy for stability.
