Data Architect / BI Developer - Microsoft Fabric Migration + Salesforce Data Modernization

Location: Remote - U.S.-based candidates

Overview

We are seeking a senior Data Architect / BI Developer to support a strategic enterprise data modernization initiative centered on migrating a data warehouse environment from Microsoft Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.

This is a high-impact role combining data architecture, Microsoft cloud modernization, BI/reporting, and Salesforce-driven analytics. The successful candidate will help define the future-state data platform while ensuring critical Salesforce sales data and reporting requirements are properly supported throughout the transformation.

The primary initiative is the migration from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, including data architecture, modeling, transformation, pipelines, reporting, and downstream analytics.

Salesforce is also a key source of sales data and reporting. The organization is moving from a custom Salesforce Opportunity object to the standard Salesforce Opportunity object, creating a need to assess existing data models, reporting structures, pipelines, and analytics that rely on Opportunity data.

The ideal candidate will be a strong architect who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on when needed across SQL, data modeling, transformation, BI, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and delivery strategy for the Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric migration.
  • Define the future-state enterprise data platform and warehouse architecture.
  • Assess existing data, reporting, and analytics environments and determine appropriate migration strategies.
  • Design scalable data models, transformation frameworks, pipelines, and reporting structures within Microsoft Fabric.
  • Evaluate the downstream impact of Salesforce data-model changes, particularly the transition from a custom Opportunity object to the standard Opportunity object.
  • Partner with Salesforce, data engineering, BI, and business teams to ensure Salesforce data is structured appropriately for enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Validate that existing sales reporting and analytics remain accurate throughout the Salesforce and data-platform changes.
  • Help align Salesforce-sourced data with the future-state warehouse and reporting architecture.
  • Identify data-quality issues, dependencies, risks, and opportunities for modernization.
  • Provide architectural guidance around governance, performance, scalability, security, and data quality.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, architects, and technical teams across the organization.
  • Contribute hands-on to SQL development, data transformation, modeling, and BI/reporting work as needed.

Project Highlights

Microsoft Data Platform Modernization

  • Major migration from Microsoft Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Modernization of enterprise data warehousing, reporting, and analytics capabilities.
  • Opportunity to help shape the future-state Microsoft data architecture.
  • Hands-on involvement across data modeling, transformation, pipelines, SQL, and BI.

Salesforce Data & Reporting Modernization

  • Salesforce is a key source of enterprise sales data and reporting.
  • Transition from a custom Salesforce Opportunity object to the standard Salesforce Opportunity object.
  • Existing sales reporting, data models, pipelines, and downstream analytics will need to be evaluated and aligned to the new Salesforce structure.
  • Work closely with teams responsible for Salesforce ingestion and downstream data architecture.
  • Ensure Salesforce data can effectively support enterprise BI, reporting, and analytics within the modernized Microsoft Fabric environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, BI, or Enterprise Data Platforms.
  • Proven experience supporting or leading enterprise data warehouse modernization initiatives.
  • Strong experience within the Microsoft data ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture and data warehousing.
  • Strong expertise with:
    • SQL
    • Data Modeling
    • Data Warehousing
    • ETL/ELT
    • Data Pipelines
    • Data Transformation
    • BI & Reporting
    • Enterprise Data Architecture
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, or strong experience with adjacent Azure data platforms and the ability to work with modern cloud data architectures.
  • Ability to translate business reporting requirements into scalable technical/data solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Synapse.
  • Experience migrating enterprise data warehouse platforms to Microsoft Fabric or another modern cloud data platform.
  • Experience with Salesforce data, reporting, integrations, or CRM analytics.
  • Understanding of Salesforce data structures, particularly the Opportunity object and sales reporting.
  • Experience supporting Salesforce as a source system within an enterprise data warehouse or BI environment.
  • Experience with Salesforce data ingestion, downstream data models, or CRM-driven analytics.
  • Experience supporting large-scale reporting and analytics ecosystems.
  • Experience with enterprise data governance and data-quality initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidates will combine Microsoft cloud data architecture experience with hands-on BI/data engineering capabilities.

They should have:
  • Experience leading or supporting Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or enterprise data warehouse modernization initiatives.
  • Strong architecture fundamentals combined with hands-on technical ability.
  • Experience translating complex source-system data into scalable reporting and analytics solutions.
  • An understanding of how Salesforce data flows into enterprise data platforms and BI environments.
  • Experience navigating data-model changes without disrupting critical business reporting.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across architecture, engineering, BI, Salesforce, and business teams.
  • The ability to operate at both the strategic architecture level and the hands-on implementation level.

Target Titles

  • Data Architect
  • Senior Data Architect
  • Enterprise Data Architect
  • Cloud Data Architect
  • Data Platform Architect
  • Analytics Architect
  • BI Architect
  • Principal Data Engineer
  • Senior Data Engineer
  • Microsoft Fabric Architect

Interview Process

  • 2 streamlined interview rounds preferred.

  • Client is actively reviewing candidates and interviewing immediately.

Recruiter Notes

The strongest candidates will combine Microsoft cloud data architecture experience with hands-on BI/data engineering capabilities. Prior Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse experience is highly valuable, particularly candidates who have led or supported enterprise data warehouse migrations.

Salesforce experience does not need to be their primary specialty. Candidates with strong Microsoft/Fabric/Synapse architecture backgrounds should be considered if they have experience working with Salesforce as a source system, Salesforce-driven reporting, CRM analytics, or enterprise data integrations.

The key differentiator is the ability to understand both sides of the initiative: modernizing the core data platform from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric while ensuring Salesforce data and sales reporting remain accurate, scalable, and aligned to the new architecture.
